Why died Habr. What to do and where to go

Disclaimer. This post is a detailed response to post Habr die?.

In the original post I gave a link to their discussion with deniskin from Nov 2014 (slightly later than the points on the graph of the vehicle, when Habr started to die): habrahabr.ru/post/278325/#comment_8789143

In that thread I pretty much described what happened to Abram and why he dies. It took a year and a half, a respected community can judge who of us was right.

The original thesis is as follows: Habr killed first of all lack of understanding of Thematic Media, what is ... and why it took off — unlike other TM projects, half of which is already buried and the other half flies a low-dwarf.

The fact that the Habr in its form in which it existed in 2010, was not a "site about IT" type 3dnews and Ferra. Habr was, first and foremost, a circle on interests. I gathered a bunch of geeks and discussed, in General, that they themselves are interested in — including but not limited to, space, Board game, matter, the theory of evolution, greed kopirastov, comb Churov and others. TM periodically staged raids and get banned a particularly vicious flame, but, in General, the situation is all arranged.

Then there was this: Habr ROS-ROS and gradually grown to a very large size. This entailed a lot of unpleasant consequences:
— it became profitable to write for money all sorts of related gadgets and other slag;
— the level of discussion began openly to fall, and the level of the flame, respectively — to grow;
— a good fit posts (good fit == gukovskogo interesting to the core audience) began to write just not interested because they were drowning in any slag and received far less comments, pluses, asterisks and all this here.

Overall, however, the Habr was more alive than dead. But then in the case entered administration, with the grace of a Hippo decided all of the above problems:

— there are no quality articles? Declare Habr place strictly "about programming", we will be carcass/chuchelko to raise the "quality content" by "rewarding authors" and corporate blogging;
— lots of flooding? One-half of the ban, the other half of karma cut;
all I get is "not about IT" evict on a separate pad.

The most unpleasant is that their purposes, the administration fully achieved. Habr has become a collection of good articles about programming. No, really, they, of course, not so much, but they are quite a quality. But the community has died, Habr no longer a collective blog, namely that a platform for publications with sparse comments.

In contemporary debate, "victims" I expressed the idea that someone will make a "normal clone of Habra", which will take the audience at the project TM. This did not happen because Habr dies not in favor of some other platform, and it is quite clear from the foregoing. Personally, I ceased to write in Habr, because the level of the community fell. Where would I go? Obviously, where there are interesting to me society — Facebook, Telegram, whatever. My hypothesis is that the old audience Habra slowly spread to other places of the party of geeks, that's all.

Finally, instead of conclusion. These processes, in my opinion, irreversible. The "old" Habra no, not to revive it, and nothing similar on the horizon is not expected. Such things.
